I am not religious and would not normally read something like this but I think your book is terrific. Unlike other comments I love the modern speech, dude etc as this will really grab children. You have a lovely style of writing and I think children will really engage with it. In fact I think you should rewrite the entire bible like this - a lot of people would understand it a lot better! Well done and good luck with it. fascinating concept and idea that you relay very well indeed,... I love that this is historical fiction but still has a sort of diary-like thing going on! I've never really seen anything written like that. And it's unusual to find a historical novel about Egypt as well! This is just a really original concept, so well done. The language you choose to use will easily connect with children, and this is really great for its genre. The narrator is likable and reasonably well developed, and your plot is progressing nicely. Wow! What a fabulous children's book! I think you have the age range just right... my boy would definitely like this! You have all the necessary "boyness"... crocs, river life, and lots of messy stuff! ) The depth of the story, though, goes much deeper. There is a wonderful richness to the historical and cultural details (Baba, fishing with nets, etc.). I love how you stop to explain and elaborate on some of these things. I can see lots of great family discussions emerging from this book! I also really love that this story is told from Ammon's perspective. First of all, it is so interesting to hear the story from the Egyptian point of view. In addition, the natural and authentic voice of a young boy works so well (ie "for girls..." and "but, hey, it's all in a day's work..."). Great stuff! I am a big fan! I'm happy to give this piece many shiny stars. Exo. 1238 And a mixed multitude went up also with them(the Hebrews); and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, and my kids (10 and 13) LOVED it. We're all very familiar with the Exodus story, but this was a fresh perspective. The story is told as seen through the eyes of a young Egyptian and how the plagues affect him, his family, and his friends. It was fascinating the way each plague was directly connected to one of the many Egyptian gods! I look forward to reading more of this author's work.Product details

This is a good fictional historical account, great for adults and children complete with illustrations; for those of us who like pictures in a book. It can be used as an educational tool during passover time to have children read for themselves a book that they can enjoy and understand how it must have been like for the citizens in Egypt during the plagues.
I read Coming Out of Egypt and I thought it was creative. The story is set in Egypt and it has some beautiful drawings and easy-to-read matter. Definitely a good book and nothing I can complain about. The cover is especially admirable.
I read it aloud and took 1-1/2 hrs. The kids liked it and I liked it too. The idea of putting the story of Exodus through the eyes of an Egyptian child brings a new perspective and is thought provoking. It also exposes the many gods and their lifestyle.
A couple of years ago I learned how each of the plagues of Egypt was a direct hit to each Egyptian deity. I makes you wonder how some Egyptians could have questioned the power of their useless gods and realized that the Hebrew God is the only true God.
Again, the story was thought provoking.
A must read for kids who are believers living in a world of those who don't. Even for adults, it gives life to the story we read every year.
